Paleokastrítsa’s Varkarola Festival

Paleokastrítsa’s Varkarola Festival (usually on the closest weekend to 11 August) commemorates Spyridon’s miraculous assistance in lifting the Ottoman siege of 1716, with a mock naval battle, water-borne choirs and yet more fireworks.

Other notable summer festivals include Agía Marína (on/about 17 July) in Benítses, marked by folk-dancing, followed by a local sardine festival during early August. The Agiotfest soul, rock and folk festival in the village of Ágios Ioánnis marks its ninth iteration on 26 August 2017, from 7.30pm onwards (programme in good time on agiotfest.com).
