As Mandouki is close to the port, its inhabitants were the first to be attacked by the pirates and enemies that threatened Corfu. It was destroyed in 1537 by the chief of the Ottoman fleet, Hajreddin Barbarossa. One other important moment of the Mandouki history is in 1799, when the island was under French attack and the people of Mandouki fortified in Monastery of Panagia and fought against the invaders.
Unfortunately, the French defeated them and burnt the monastery, killing most of the inhabitants inside it.
