Sacrifice Running Race

If you want to honor the Free Besieged heroes of Sacred Town of Messolonghi you have to come and run in the Sacrifice Running Race and take the reverse route, followed by the Free Besieged.

Athletes from across the country take part each year, the day before Easter, in this race which begins from the monastery of Ai Symios and the finish line is in the Garden of Heroes, for a total distance being covered is 9,800 meters. The First race took place in April 1946, on the initiative of a gymnastics trainer from Palamaiki School, Giorgos Polichronopoulos.
