Τhe sacred city of Messolonghi, known worldwidely for the immense sacrifice of its inhabitants, the Free Besieged, commemorates every year, the night of the heroic exodus of its inhabitants from the besieged city by the Turks, on 26 April 1826. The revival of the heroic sortie is honored every year, on Saturday of Lazarus and Palm Sunday, in the presence of representatives from foreign states as well as prominent representatives of literature and art from both Greece and abroad.
